University squads are named

THE SCOTTISH University squads have been named for the 2016 shinty/ hurling camogie meetings with their Queens University counterpar­ts in Belfast this weekend.

A strong Scottish men’s squad contains a number of current Marine Harvest Premiershi­p players, including Kingussie’s Rory MacKeachan and Calum Grant, Fort William’s Calum Shepherd, Ross MacRae and Cammy Keith from Kyles Athletic and Skye Camanachd pair Will Cowie and James Pringle. There’s also a place for Glasgow Mid Argyll’s top scorer Craig Anderson.

A strong women’s squad will also make the trip. It features Skye goalie Sarah Jane Ferguson, who will share the goalkeepin­g duties with Aberdour’s Taryn Neilson.

Also included are Glasgow Mid Argyll’s Rachel McCafferty, Aberdour’s Katie Booth, Morgan Redpath from Strathglas­s, as well as Megan Ralph, Rona Stewart, Rhona McIntyre and Zoe Reid from Badenoch and Strathspey.

The Scots have played against tough opposition over the past few years, including the British University GAA, Ulster University, Offaly select and the Waterford Institute of Technology.
