Rockfield centre’s busy year

-

THE Rockfield Centre in Oban held its second AGM on Thursday, when a packed meeting heard a presentation of the annual report and year overview from chairman Gordon McNab.

The presentation outlined the progress the board and volunteers are making in turning the former school into a busy creative hub, and the difference the centre is bringing to people’s lives.

It has been a busy year. Under its history and heritage theme a project, financed by the Heritage Lottery Fund and entitled Memories Matter, has seen new volunteers establishing an active research and archiving group, creating a number of oral recordings of local reminiscences, an exhibition, A

Postwar Childhood, plus a heritage map and a successful season of guided walks.

This year there have been a number of art workshops, which led to the centre hosting Grid Iron theatre company and its production of The Devil’s Larder, working with Argyll Youth Arts hub, which also brought in young volunteers.

The centre also secured funding from Crerar Hotels Trust allowing it to run sell-out arts workshops and host live music events. While its commitment to education and enterprise has seen a range of opportunities for partnership, networking and collaboration, supporting the growing ambitions for the use of the site, allowing the centre to open the community hut in January 2016.

Chariman Gordon McNab said: The AGM was well attended and it was good to convey what has happened over the last year and also to share the plans for the future... it is clear to see that this project has huge potential.

‘A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the centre and continues to do so. We are looking forward to the next 12 months.’
