Groups missing funding

COMMUNITY groups are missing out on free cash because they are not signing up for Tesco’s Bags of Help for charities and voluntary groups.

Oban and Lorn organisations are missing out on vital cash that is available to good causes. The money comes from the 5p carrier bag charge Tesco is required by law to charge.

Each month three projects are shortlisted to go forward to a public vote in each of the Tesco areas, including Oban, and each of those projects will be awarded a grant based on the number of votes received – first place up to £ 5,000, second place up to £2,000 and third place up to £1,000.

Projects must deliver a physical environmental improvement and/or encourage use and longterm sustainability of outdoor spaces.

Projects given funding include volunteer training, improvements to open spaces, equipment purchases, community events, and sports and leisure activities.
