A £4.3 MIL­LION lot­tery fund has given £63,178 to Is­lay and Jura Com­mu­nity En­ter­prises, a so­cial en­ter­prise which runs the Mac­tag­gart Com­mu­nity Leisure Cen­tre in Bow­more, Is­lay.

The money will pay for a new weekly sup­port group for peo­ple on Is­lay and Jura with dis­abil­i­ties and long-term con­di­tions. It will en­able them to chat, meet new peo­ple, gain con­fi­dence, build trust, share their wor­ries and sup­port oth­ers fac­ing sim­i­lar life chal­lenges. Tar­geted travel pro­vi­sion will be pro­vided as pub­lic trans­port doesn’t run in the evening or on a Sun­day.

Nine­teen groups across Scot­land have shared the £4.3m ‘life chang­ing’ pot from Big Lot­tery Fund Scot­land.

Chair­woman Mau­reen McGinn said: ‘ This fund­ing will sup­port 19 groups across Scot­land to im­prove the places they live and the well-be­ing of peo­ple fac­ing chal­leng­ing cir­cum­stances.

‘It’s great to see groups such as Is­lay and Jura Com­mu­nity En­ter­prises Ltd re­ceiv­ing fund­ing to help sup­port peo­ple through the tough­est of times.’
