Corpach couple celebrate diamond wedding
A FAMILY- ORIENTATED couple from Corpach were joined by their nearest and dearest as they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Donald and Betty MacIntyre were married in Saint Andrews Church, Fort William, on Boxing Day 1957. Sixty years to the day, family and friends from as far away as Australia and all around Scotland travelled to Lochaber to join the couple’s celebrations. Daughter Catriona told The
Oban Times while her mother and father, now 81 and 82 respectively, enjoyed different professions throughout their lives, family was always key.
She added: ‘ Mum worked in the grocer shop and then the butcher shop while Dad spent years with the railway then in the woodyard and was a driver at the tip for the council. Mum was one of nine children so family has always been really important. They are both extremely family orientated. Dad enjoys garden- ing and they love spending time with the grand- children Laura, Grant and Stuart. They have even travelled over to Australia twice to see that side of the family. The party on Boxing Day was lovely. It was great we could celebrate on their actual anniversary and Mum and Dad had a fabulous time. It was really nice for them to catch up with people they haven’t seen in some time and for everyone to wish them well.’
Mr and Mrs MacIntyre thanked everyone who travelled, especially Laura and Rachel who came from Perth, and those who helped organise the night. They added: ‘Thanks go to our son Kenneth and daughter Catriona and the team of secret helpers; our nephew Brian for a sumptuous buffet and John and Stevie of Box of Bananas for the superb music. Thanks also to Bobby Henderson for all his help and Kilmallie Community Centre for the use of the hall.’
