THE JANUARY meeting of Skye Accordion and Fiddle Club, above, saw fewer club players than usual, but the same could not be said of the audience.

Held in its usual venue of Portree’s Royal Hotel, a large crowd gathered in a packed function room in expectation of a great night. And they were not to be disappointed as master of ceremonies Jim Campbell called on Sandy Ross, with his three-row button box, to start the music, accompanied on piano by guest band member Isobel Harper.

Other local players were Emily Matheson, Matilda McKiggan and Ciara MacLean. A spokesperson said: ‘All the girls excelled themselves and are to be congratulated on taking the stage in front of such a large audience.’

Special guests on the night were the Addie Harper Dance Band from Caithness. With Addie was fiddler Caitlin Forbes and pianist Isobel Harper. The club is looking forward to being entertained by the Lochaber-based Iain Joseph MacDonald Band on Thursday February 2.
