Excitement as Marines drop in

-

THERE was great excitement this week at Rockfield Joint Campus and Dunbeg Primary when the Royal Marine Commandos came to call.

The visit was organised by Jean MacPherson and the Commandos were delighted to drop in to say ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’ as Ms MacPherson is a great fundraiser for the Marines. Her brother-in-law, Gordon, was killed on the last day of the Falklands conflict.

Rockfield head teacher Caroline Fothergill, along with some of the pupils, helped Ms MacPherson hand over a cheque to fund a memorial garden at the Marines’ HQ in Arbroath in memory of those who have died in conflict.

At Dunbeg, pupils also presented Sergeant Paul MacShannon with a cheque. Sgt MacShannon has an Argyll connection – he comes from Lochdon on Mull – and Gordon MacPherson was a former Dunbeg pupil.
