THERE has been an increase in housebreak­ings throughout the Lochaber area and homeowners are being encouraged to remain vigilant at all times.

As the most recent housebreak­ings have taken place when homes are unoccupied, police are asking the public to take precaution­s, such as leaving lights on and asking neighbours to keep an eye on their property while they are away.

Police are also urging people to report any suspicious activity or strange or unknown vehicles.

A NUMBER of vehicles have been damaged within car parks throughout Fort William.

At around lunchtime on January 6, a Dacia Duster was damaged while parked unattended at either the Caol shops car park or outside the Co- op while unattended. It is thought the car may have been struck by another vehicle.

The rear window of a Vauxhall Meriva was smashed while parked in the Upper Achintore car park in the Dumbarton Road area overnight between January 17 and 18.

A Kia Cee’d was damaged within the Argos/Poundstret­cher car park on North Road on January 22 at 1.45pm. It is believed the damage was caused by another vehicle striking the car.

POLICE would like to hear from anyone with informatio­n after a fridge-freezer was set alight in a garden in Kennedy Road in the Plantation at around 2.30pm on January 20.

POLICE are keen to identify a man who stopped a blue car on Lundavra Road and spoke to some children at the side of the road at around 5pm on December 29. They are asking anyone with any informatio­n relating to this incident to come forward.

A CHARITY shop’s front window on Fort William High Street has been smashed in what police are treating as an act of vandalism.

The window of the PDSA shop was smashed on January 20-21.

Police are investigat­ing the damage and have assured staff and volunteers they will be checking CCTV footage in a bid to find out who is responsibl­e.

Ms Campbell said: ‘ The whole window has to be replaced. It’s mindless.’
