ON JANUARY 14 up to a million people in more than 8,000 clubs around the world celebrated the 100th release of the iconic Les Mills Body Pump workout, crossing time zones and national borders. Atlantis Community Leisure celebrated ' the world’s biggest workout' with a midnight Body Pump class, making it the first centre in the UK to launch this release. The following day it hosted a full day of taster fitness classes with 'Born to Move' and a dance-a-thon. In the process, Atlantis raised more than £772 for the Oban Community under-fives playpark. 'I only found out at 8am on Friday the 13th that we were going live for the official Body Pump Facebook page, and the whole town pulled together and found us not one, but two fantastic pipers – Emma Hill and Gregor MacDonald,' said Atlantis marketing co- ordinator Claire Hutchison. 'Jade MacEwan showcased some Highland dancing and Louie Barrow set up some awesome lights for us. Our midnight Body Pump was brilliant – we had such a buzz and going live to the world just made it even bigger. We had comments from all over the world and had over 102,000 views! We had 18 fantastic participants at midnight with four instructors, and more than 100 participants throughout the day for taster classes. Our team worked so hard to make the whole event a success and we are thrilled with the result.' Chair of the Oban Community Play Park committee, Lindsay Elliot, said: ‘ The donation to the under-fives play park is massively appreciated and gets us so much closer to our £100,000 target, which has now been met by a final donation from the Suez Trust. It was great to see so many people of all ages being active and playing on Saturday.’ Atlantis offers nine Les Mills Programmes, including Born to Move, with 11 instructors and classes for all fitness levels. The Body Pump workout is refreshed with new music and new moves every three months, using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, resulting in a total body workout that leaves you lean, toned and fit-fast.
