Stress-bust­ing cal­en­dar dates to keep in mind

There is a new event com­ing to Oban – a day of yoga and mind­ful­ness on Saturday Fe­bru­ary 11 from 10am to 4.30pm. It is be­ing run by two women from Seil Is­land, Claire Hart­ley (mind­ful­ness in­struc­tor) and Karen McCoss ( yoga teacher). ' The day will con­sist of ses­sions of yoga al­ter­nat­ing with ses­sions of mind­ful­ness,' Claire ex­plained, 'and any­one is wel­come – they can be a be­gin­ner or ex­pe­ri­enced at yoga and it doesn’t mat­ter if they don’t know any­thing about mind­ful­ness. The day will give a good over­view of what mind­ful­ness is and how it can help peo­ple to be less stressed and anx­ious.'

Karen added: 'It is a won­der­ful opportunity to have a whole day ded­i­cated to your­self.

;It is some­thing most of us never make time for and it is so in­vig­o­rat­ing and re­fresh­ing. The prac­tices are led so it shouldn’t feel too long or too tir­ing and peo­ple can take it at their own pace.'

Claire trained to teach at Ban­gor Uni­ver­sity, con­sid­ered to be the best course in the UK for train­ing teachers in mind­ful­ness-based stress re­duc­tion (MBSR) and Karen has trained with Triyoga, Europe’s lead­ing yoga teacher train­ing body.

Karen teaches in Oban on Wed­nes­day evenings (and car­ers – Thurs­day morn­ings) and on Seil on Wed­nes­day morn­ings and Thurs­day evenings, while Claire runs eight-week mind­ful­ness cour­ses (the next one starts April 18 in Oban, 19 in Lochgilp­head) and cour­ses in busi­nesses to im­prove staff health, com­mu­ni­ca­tion and pro­duc­tiv­ity. They both teach one-to- one ses­sions.

Claire said: ' We will run an­other day event in the fu­ture so if the date of this one doesn’t suit peo­ple, they can call to put their name on a list and we will con­tact them about the next one. The day events are £ 40 with tea and bis­cuits pro­vided. Peo­ple just need to bring a packed lunch and have time to just fo­cus on them­selves for a change.'
