Great reasons to go wild

For those who remember camping as involving a leaky tent and burned marshmallows on the end of a stick, today’s outdoor experiences have come a long way. Modern tents and caravans are packed with technology – forget about wrestling tent poles, today’s makers offer inflatable models. Caravans allow you to travel in self- contained comfort and style with all the conveniences of home. And, nowadays, ‘glamping’ is the trend – that is ‘glamorous camping’ for those who prefer a bit more frills with their outdoor holidays. While the technology has progressed, one thing remains the same – camping lets you get outside, get active, spend quality time together and it provides genuine value for money.

Get kids camping

Did you know that children who camp at least once a year go on to do better at school, as well as being happier and healthier? That's the finding of research by Sue Waite, associate professor at the Plymouth Institute of Education, who found that more than four out of five parents thought camping had a positive effect on their children's school education. The study showed that 98 per cent of parents said camping makes their kids appreciate and connect with nature; 95 per cent said their kids were happier when camping; and 93 per cent felt that it provided useful skills for later life. Many parents reported that escaping technology (laptops, tablets, mobiles) is a good thing for their children.
