ARI­SAIG Women’s In­sti­tute held its first meet­ing of 2017 on Jan­uary 19.

Af­ter busi­ness was con­ducted, the speaker Christoph Ew­ers, of Ard­shealach Smoke­house, gave an in­ter­est­ing in­sight into his pro­duc­tion meth­ods for smoked foods.

The WI was for­tu­nate enough to sample his wares, which mem­bers said were ‘de­li­cious’. Some mem­bers or­dered smoked salmon and smoked cheeses, among other fare.

All money raised from or­ders on the day are kindly be­ing do­nated by Mr Ew­ers to a char­ity in which he is in­volved – Cameira, Bo­livia. Com­pe­ti­tions were: a two- course menu us­ing a smoked prod­uct in at least one course – 1. June Cairns, 2. Ann La­mont, 3. Mar­garet MacEachen, 4. Anne Cameron; a verse from your favourite love poem/ song – 1. Ann La­mont, 2.= Mar­garet MacEachen and He­len Lamb, 3. Anne Cameron, 4. June Cairns.

Anne Cameron wishes to thank the se­nior cit­i­zens and the dancers who do­nated to the Sand­piper Trust and the sum raised was £240.

The next Ari­saig WI meet­ing is on Fe­bru­ary 16 at 2.30pm in the Ast­ley Hall.
