ARISAIG Women’s Institute held its first meeting of 2017 on January 19.

After business was conducted, the speaker Christoph Ewers, of Ardshealac­h Smokehouse, gave an interestin­g insight into his production methods for smoked foods.

The WI was fortunate enough to sample his wares, which members said were ‘delicious’. Some members ordered smoked salmon and smoked cheeses, among other fare.

All money raised from orders on the day are kindly being donated by Mr Ewers to a charity in which he is involved – Cameira, Bolivia. Competitio­ns were: a two- course menu using a smoked product in at least one course – 1. June Cairns, 2. Ann Lamont, 3. Margaret MacEachen, 4. Anne Cameron; a verse from your favourite love poem/ song – 1. Ann Lamont, 2.= Margaret MacEachen and Helen Lamb, 3. Anne Cameron, 4. June Cairns.

Anne Cameron wishes to thank the senior citizens and the dancers who donated to the Sandpiper Trust and the sum raised was £240.

The next Arisaig WI meeting is on February 16 at 2.30pm in the Astley Hall.
