Sen­tence de­ferred on Oban teenager

AN OBAN teenager has ad­mit­ted drug deal­ing af­ter be­ing caught with £1,000 worth of cannabis in his bed­room.

John Sa­muel Scott, 18, of 10 Hazeldean Cres­cent, Oban, pleaded guilty to be­ing con­cerned in the sup­ply of herbal cannabis, a con­trolled drug, on Jan­uary 18.

Procu­ra­tor fis­cal Alas­dair Shaw told Oban Sher­iff Court on Wed­nes­day Fe­bru­ary 1 that ‘po­lice at­tended the home ad­dress of the ac­cused,’ and ‘ within the bed­room they found 12 wraps and £100 within a plas­tic bag.’

Mr Shaw said of­fi­cers also found £1,390 in cash and ‘a set of dig­i­tal scales with green herbal mat­ter on it, and a tick list’. He added that ‘the com­bined to­tal was 71.79g, with an ap­prox­i­mate street value of £1,000.’

De­fend­ing, Jane McLaren said: ‘Mr Scott made a full and frank ad­mis­sion to po­lice. He tells me he is him­self a cannabis user and he would sell it to friends. He was fund­ing his own habit.’

Sher­iff Ruth An­der­son said: ‘This is a se­ri­ous mat­ter. I shall call for a crim­i­nal jus­tice so­cial work re­port.’

Sen­tenc­ing was de­ferred un­til Fe­bru­ary 28.
