ISLAY - United Auctions had 1,009 grazing cattle forward at their first spring sale at Islay Auction Mart on Saturday March 11. A large attendance of mainland buyers ensured a firm trade prevailed throughout the day’s proceedings. Bullocks sold to average £ 891.89 per head or 243.5 pence per kilo against £ 869.72 and 233 pence last year while heifers levelled out at £765.98 per head and 230.3 pence per kilo against £779.99 and 222 pence last year. Bullocks sold to a top price of £1,400 per head and 324 pence per kilo, both being consigned by M/s McMillan, Ardbeg.
