Lorne under 16s lose out in West Shield semi-finals
OBAN’S U16 team made the trip to Inverclyde on Sunday to take on Greenock Wanderers RFC in the semi final of the West Regional Shield competition.
The Oban side have impressed since dropping out of the West Cup with a narrow loss against Strathaven/ Dalziel in February. A convincing 36-5 win at Cartha last weekend set up Sunday’s game against a quality Greenock side. A strong Oban squad of 19 players made the trip with a healthy following of parents and supporters. Unfortunately Oban went down 17-7 with the team failing to hit the high standards set in previous games this season. Oban’s only try came from winger Robert McLaughlin, with the score converted by Angus Neil.
With competitive games now at an end for this season, the team will be looking at opportunities for friendly games and to take part in 7s competitions. A record number of games have been played by Oban U-16s this season with the squad playing around 18 competitive fixtures.
Huge thanks must go to the coaching team, players and parents for helping make 2016/17 a very successful season.
U13/U14 games off
Last weekend’s scheduled U13/ U14 games at Paisley RFC were called off as the opposition were unable to raise a team.
