Lochaber Youth Theatre success

-

HARD work is paying off for young Lochaber theatre enthusiasts.

Lochaber Youth Theatre (LYT) presented The School Film at the Nevis Centre, Fort William, on March 13 and will now take the show to Eden Court, Inverness, for the National Theatre’s annual festival of new plays designed to give young people experience of professional theatre.

The School Film centres around a class of secondary pupils brought together to watch the film adaptation of Great Expectations.

The twist is that neither the audience or actors can see the film and there are only eight lines of dialogue.

The audience only hears the characters’ inner thoughts as they watch the film. Director Alan Gray said: ‘The piece is the most challenging the group has undertaken in my time with them.

‘On reading, the play can appear disjointed, confusing and daunting but I feel the group has risen to the challenge and their hard work has shone through.

‘We now transfer to the Connections festival at Eden Court in April where along with seven other youth theatres from throughout Scotland, LYT will take part in workshops, perform themselves and watch each other perform’

The group thanks the Nevis Centre for all its help and support throughout rehearsals and on show day.
