Exchange pupils helped by Rotary cash
ROTARY club members present a cheque to support exchange students taking part in an annual Oban High School trip.
Oban Rotary President Graham Fraser presented a cheque for £ 500 towards the cost of the project.
Oban Rotary Club has contributed financially to the Laurinburg project since its inception and as part of the events laid on for the Laurinburg students, the club hosts a lunch for the students and their Oban counterparts which enhances the fellowship enjoyed by everyone concerned.
This year will be the 25th anniversary of the Laurinburg Exchange which involves students from Oban High School hosting fellow students from Laurinburg, in North Carolina, USA.
The students from America come to Oban in June for a fortnight and are housed by students’ families and through participating in a variety of pre-arranged local activities they enjoy what is sometimes a life- changing experience in terms of broadening their education.
The exchange is reciprocated later in the year when the Oban students fly out to stay with their Laurinburg counterparts.
