-

The Oban Times Highland Wedding Show is your local show and offers you the opportunity to talk about what matters to you, whether it’s finding the perfect colour combinations between dresses, flowers, cakes and room décor, or discovering the perfect coupling between flavour and design for your beautiful cake.

You can check out the latest trends and tastes from floristry to favours and canapes to cars. Add to that an array of stunning wedding venues where you can bring together all of these elements to create the most wonderful day to remember.

We have teamed up with Argyll and Bute Registrars ( ABR) to give you the run down on what to consider when booking your wedding at any venue.

Head of Service, Judy Orr says: ‘ When it comes to life’s momentous occasions, our Registrars work to the motto, “It’s your day so we do it your way”.

‘ This means that our focus is on listening to how you imagine your event will be, and supporting you to achieve this, whether that means providing help in finding the perfect location or guidance on the legal aspects of a ceremony.

‘ If you are thinking about a civil wedding or other ceremony in Argyll and Bute, you can be rest assured that you will find the perfect location for your special day.

‘Our Registrars will do all possible to make a couple’s wedding day the special, unique event they want.

‘Argyll and Bute’s scenery already provides a stunning backdrop. We have conducted ceremonies in a huge range of locations, on beaches, loch sides, in castles and family homes.

‘Our Registrars are keen to do all they can to provide a ceremony matched to the wishes of our couples.

‘ We provide guidance in making arrangements for the day such as the legal aspects of getting married. If you are planning a civil ceremony in Argyll and Bute, you will receive a warm welcome and a lot of help from our friendly, reliable and knowledgeable Registrars.’

Due to a change in legislation there is now no legal requirement for venues to have a licence to host civil ceremonies which makes arranging your civil ceremony a very straight forward process.

Last year alone the Registrars helped more than 500 couples celebrate their weddings.

Your civil ceremony will include the legal requirements and you can add your own personal touches for example hand fasting, unity candle and quaich ceremony, or music and poetry readings.

Whether you are having a religious or civil ceremony, you will need to contact your local Registrars who will keep you right with the paperwork necessary to make your wedding happen.

Registrars can also help with other important family events such as baby naming ceremonies and re- dedication of marriage vows.

If you are already married but would like to renew your vows, the Registrars can help. These ceremonies, which couples celebrate at different times in their marriage, have no legal implication but are a public statement of a couple’s continued commitment to each other.

A naming ceremony is a great way to celebrate a child or children arriving into the family and officially announce the names you have chosen. Children of any age can have a naming ceremony.

Reaffirmation and naming ceremonies can take place in one of our registration offices or at a venue of your choice.

At the end of your ceremony you can be presented with a certificate to mark the occasion.

Argyll and Bute Registration Service have produced a civil ceremony brochure outlining everything you need to know in planning your big day.

Here are a few quotes from wedding couples who have used the service...

‘ There are lots of options open to couples these days but we knew that we wanted a nice, simple, civil ceremony.

‘ The registrar was so friendly, flexible and helpful and we were able to tailor the proceedings to what we wanted – short and sweet with a reading at the beginning.’

‘ You sorted everything out for us, arranged an amazing ceremony and made me feel so at ease, relaxed and happy.’
