Park Primary bowl them over

-

OBAN Cricket Club joined up with Active Schools recently to hold the eighth annual primary seven cricket festival at Atlantis Leisure.

After running cricket taster sessions with all the primary schools in Oban, pupils returned for a day’s competition which proved to be a huge success with a great standard of play displayed throughout.

Six teams from Rockfield school, four from Park school and three from St Columba’s started by playing a group format where each team played three games. The two teams who came out on top after the group stage were both from Park School and they contested the final in front of the rest of the field.

A great game ensued with some fine batting and fielding from both sides. At the end, Park 4 were the victors, scoring 113 runs against their opponents’ 86.

Ronnie Kelly from Oban Cricket Club said: ‘The standard of play was absolutely incredible and shows the schools are playing cricket during PE. This was evident in the skills displayed by the children.’.

Oban Cricket Club and Playsport from Atlantis have arranged sessions which started on Monday March 6 from 5- 6pm for children who wish to continue their cricket after school.

These sessions are open to children from P6- S1.

Oban’s senior cricket team is practising at Atlantis Leisure every Sunday from 4-5pm and new players are always welcome.
