Lochaber fiddlers rally hits all the right notes

-

A FABULOUS evening was had by everyone at the 31st annual fiddlers’ rally hosted by Lochaber Strathspey and Reel Society on Saturday March 18.

Musicians from all over the country, including Oban, Thurso, the Clyde coast, Fife, Aberdeen, Perth and Dundee, joined local players in Caol Community Centre to perform jigs, reels and other popular tunes.

Rally conductor Mary Adam said: ‘We had a fabulous evening playing favourite tunes which were very much enjoyed by the players and the audience in the new Caol community centre.’

Fort William piper Connal MacBride opened the rally and 11-year- old Cameron MacIsaac from Roybridge was the youngest guest performer, playing tunes on his accordion.

There were also two Mód Gold Medal-winning guest singers. One was Carol MacLean, originally from Lewis but now living in Tobermory. She sings with Isle of Mull choir and Atomaig Piseag and won her Gold Medal at last year’s Mód in the Western Isles.

Hector MacKechnie from Lochaline was also a gold medallist last year. He started singing with Buarach Choir in 2012 and now sings with a few other choirs as well as performing solo.

Miss Adam added: ‘We would like to thank everyone for their continued support and look forward to seeing them at our next rally.’
