Heavy defeat for Fort William at Huntly

-

AFTER three home games without a win, Huntly ran out comfortable 5-1 winners over Fort William.

The deadlock was broken after eight minutes when Ross Still’s cross from the left was turned into his own goal by Fort defender Farquhar Macrae.

Huntly doubled their lead in the 28th minute when a long throw from David Donald wasn’t dealt with and Robert Duncanson took a touch before powering a shot into the top corner.

Fort got back into the game in the 34th minute when Scott Davidson took advantage of a lapse before running on to net with a good individual effort.

Within minutes, Huntly restored their two-goal lead when Dennis Wyness lifted a ball over the opposing defence and Duncanson fired into the far post for his 19th goal of the season.

Scott Davidson has now scored four in as many games against Huntly and the Fort forward came close before the break curling a free kick just over the bar.

Farquhar Macrae came close to making amends for his earlier own goal when he headed wide following a corner. Midway through the half, the visitors were denied a second when John Farquhar pulled off a double save to keep out Jack Lingard and Scott Davidson following a counter attack.

Huntly threatened again when Ross Still’s header was turned round the post by Douglas Maclennan while Iain MacLellan had a let- off when he headed by his own goal moments later.

In the 71st minute Ross Still did well to win the ball in the middle of the park and after feeding Duncanson he ran onto the return ball before firing a low drive in off the far post.

The scoring was wrapped up with 12 minutes remaining when a Duncanson corner was headed towards goal by Sean Webb and Glenn Murison nodded in at the near post.
