SENIOR students at Tobermory High School are continuing preparations for their exams in May and pupils in S1, 2 and 3 have been involved in a variety of learning activities.

These include an RME day on The Creation Story, food tasting in French and preparing for their own parliamentary elections in social subjects.

S3 pupils have been thinking about careers as they begin the process of choosing their subjects for their senior years at school.

Nursery and primary youngsters have been very busy, both in school and out and about in the community.

In the pre-five unit, the pupils decided they would like to learn about travelling using trains and aeroplanes.

Part of the pre-five unit was transformed into a ticket office and pupils exchanged money for tickets for their travels.

The setting was very busy as pupils packed cases and set off on their journey.

Using cardboard boxes, a train was built that ran the length of the building - big enough for all the pre-five passengers. A model train track was set up outside that ran around the playground which also caused great excitement.

P1/2 has been investigating local shops and have visited the bakery, chemist, soap shop and the Co- op. They have then used their knowledge to create their own shop within the classroom and practice many of the roles they have experienced first-hand in the community, learning about the value of money as well as using coins to pay for their purchases.

P3/4 are currently busy exploring polar lands and have discovered what life is like in the North and South Poles. There has also been an increase in the wildlife sightings in the classroom, with sock penguins and a huge polar bear and her cub to be seen roaming free! Base camp has been established and the pupils have been developing their compass and map work with the aid of a giant compass marked out on the floor.

P5/6/ 7 have been developing their geocaching skills supported by the local ranger who has helped them to hide and locate geocaches around the school, at Aros Park and along the main street. Pupils have used GPS, maps and co- ordinates to find the hidden caches and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They are also going to hide a travel bug which they hope to track on its adventures across the globe.

Thank you to all of our community partners that have enhanced and supported our curriculum this term.
