Islay and Jura

-

A DAY of health and well-being workshops proved popular with Islay High School pupils and Argyll and Bute MP Brendan O’Hara who took part in a zumba class.

Active schools co- ordinator Nona Thomas and youth development worker Amy Dunnachie organised a day of activities including a talk from the See Me programme, which aims to tackle mental health stigma and discrimination and help young people express their feelings. Internet safety was also a hot topic of the day, alongside cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and a workshop on alcohol and drug awareness by Addaction. On Saturday, Islay and Jura health and well-being co- ordinator Gill Chasemore arranged an exhibition of local service providers, from the Citizens Advice Bureau to Scottish dancing, and invited residents to meet them. MP Brendan O’Hara showed his support visiting all the stalls and talking to members of the community.

Gill thanks everyone who contributed and attended the events, in particular Islay High School head teacher Stephen Harrison for his support.

Donations received at the events are going to Islay High School’s expedition team for their planned trip to Africa.
