Work to start on Soldier’s Bridge

CONTRACTORS are on site preparing to start a £300,000 project to improve a crucial community link in Fort William.

Soldiers Bridge, which crosses the River Lochy between Black Parks Road, Inverlochy, and Lochyside, is going to be almost completely renewed.

Dingwall-based company Strath Civil Engineering is doing the work on behalf of the Highland Council.

Councillor for Caol and Mallaig Ben Thompson said: ‘I dropped by to say hello to Strath Civil Engineering staff who are on site setting up to start the repair job.

‘For the next three weeks they’ll be scaffolding the bridge.

‘Nine weeks after that we should finally have a mostly new bridge.’
