MacTavish Cup – rst round

-

Fort William 0 Newtonmore 2

Newtonmore will host Caberfeidh in the MacTavish Cup quarter-finals after they beat Fort William 2- 0 in their 3pm throw up at An Aird.

Fort William’s Arran MacPhee was back in the fold after recovering from injury and there was also a place for Bryan Simpson.

Newtonmore defender Andy MacKintosh started a twogame ban following his red card against Oban Camanachd in his team’s last outing. Michael Russell was named in the squad following a spell working abroad.

This was one of a number of games across the country where there was a minute’s silence ahead of throw-up in memory of Oban Camanachd stalwart Neil ‘Nonny’ MacInnes.

Newtonmore took the lead on 15 minutes. David MacLean played a good pass down the line to Iain Robinson who collected possession just inside the Fort William half.

Robinson used his pace to lose his marker and ran goalwards before sending a powerful strike past the keeper to make it 1- 0.

Fort William gave a good account of themselves though and it took until 62 minutes before Glen MacKintosh made it 2- 0.

A long pass from midfield dropped at MacKintosh’s feet and he twisted one way and then the other before sending a shot into the net off the post.
