Masterchef stars on Skye fes­ti­val menu

BBC MASTERCHEF cham­pion Gary Maclean fea­tures on the menu of a new fes­ti­val on Skye in June.

The win­ner of the 2016 pro­fes­sion­als series says he is look­ing for­ward to tak­ing part in the first Spirit of Skye Fes­ti­val, which brings to­gether the best of Scot­land’s whisky, gin, beer, mu­sic and food un­der one roof.

The two- day event, at the Aros Cen­tre, Portree, be­tween Fri­day and Satur­day, June 16 and 17, will serve up a feast of demon­stra­tions and talks by ma­jor drinks brands and lo­cal ex­perts, cre­ative mas­ter­classes, live mu­sic, lo­cal pro­duce stalls, two of Scot­land’s finest chefs, film and a grand fi­nale bar­be­cue and ceilidh fea­tur­ing four of Scot­land’s best Scots trad mu­si­cians.

Gary will be joined by Three Chim­neys’ head chef Scott Davies, the 2013 Masterchef pro­fes­sion­als run­ner-up, to take part in the Chefs’ Theatre event.

Gary said: ‘I am re­ally ex­cited to be play­ing a role in the Spirit of Skye Fes­ti­val. Fresh Scot­tish pro­duce is world class and I want to share with fes­ti­val-go­ers new ideas to bring out the best flavours and tastes Scot­land has to of­fer.’

Don­ald Mac­Don­ald, man­ag­ing di­rec­tor of the Aros Cen­tre, said: ‘ We are re­ally look­ing for­ward to host­ing the event and it is very ex­cit­ing to have so many peo­ple in­volved.’

In ad­di­tion to the Chefs’ Theatre, the week­end in­cludes mas­ter­classes and tast­ing ses­sions by Talisker Whisky, Stir­ling Gin, Cuillin Brew­ery and Sli­gachan Ho­tel. There will be chil­dren’s events and a play area, film show­ings and a hall of ex­hibitors from some of Scot­land’s finest food and drink pro­duc­ers, in­clud­ing The Isle of Skye Sea Salt Com­pany, Or­bost Farm, Isle of Skye Brew­ing Co, Di­a­geo, Talisker, Cross­bill High­land Dis­till­ing, R&B Dis­tillers, Cuillin Brew­ery, Cairn o’Mohr wines, Choco­lates of Glen­shiel and more.

Fes­ti­val or­gan­iser Pam Al­lan has just fin­ished fi­nal­is­ing the pro­gramme and says she is look­ing for­ward to June.
