Masterchef stars on Skye festival menu
BBC MASTERCHEF champion Gary Maclean features on the menu of a new festival on Skye in June.
The winner of the 2016 professionals series says he is looking forward to taking part in the first Spirit of Skye Festival, which brings together the best of Scotland’s whisky, gin, beer, music and food under one roof.
The two- day event, at the Aros Centre, Portree, between Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17, will serve up a feast of demonstrations and talks by major drinks brands and local experts, creative masterclasses, live music, local produce stalls, two of Scotland’s finest chefs, film and a grand finale barbecue and ceilidh featuring four of Scotland’s best Scots trad musicians.
Gary will be joined by Three Chimneys’ head chef Scott Davies, the 2013 Masterchef professionals runner-up, to take part in the Chefs’ Theatre event.
Gary said: ‘I am really excited to be playing a role in the Spirit of Skye Festival. Fresh Scottish produce is world class and I want to share with festival-goers new ideas to bring out the best flavours and tastes Scotland has to offer.’
Donald MacDonald, managing director of the Aros Centre, said: ‘ We are really looking forward to hosting the event and it is very exciting to have so many people involved.’
In addition to the Chefs’ Theatre, the weekend includes masterclasses and tasting sessions by Talisker Whisky, Stirling Gin, Cuillin Brewery and Sligachan Hotel. There will be children’s events and a play area, film showings and a hall of exhibitors from some of Scotland’s finest food and drink producers, including The Isle of Skye Sea Salt Company, Orbost Farm, Isle of Skye Brewing Co, Diageo, Talisker, Crossbill Highland Distilling, R&B Distillers, Cuillin Brewery, Cairn o’Mohr wines, Chocolates of Glenshiel and more.
Festival organiser Pam Allan has just finished finalising the programme and says she is looking forward to June.
