Work to start on Sol­dier’s Bridge

CON­TRAC­TORS are on site pre­par­ing to start a £300,000 pro­ject to im­prove a cru­cial com­mu­nity link in Fort Wil­liam.

Sol­diers Bridge, which crosses the River Lochy be­tween Black Parks Road, In­ver­lochy, and Lochy­side, is go­ing to be al­most com­pletely re­newed.

Ding­wall-based com­pany Strath Civil Engi­neer­ing is do­ing the work on be­half of the High­land Coun­cil.

Coun­cil­lor for Caol and Mal­laig Ben Thomp­son said: ‘I dropped by to say hello to Strath Civil Engi­neer­ing sta who are on site set­ting up to start the re­pair job.

‘For the next three weeks they’ll be sca old­ing the bridge.

‘Nine weeks af­ter that we should nally have a mostly new bridge.’
