WHITE VAN Man

- George Berry

AT THE most recent meeting of Oban Community Council, the proposals for future building of houses in the Dunbeg to Ganavan corridor was discussed.

I was very interested to hear Councillor Roddy McCuish give the community council an idea as to the layout of the next phase of building.

However, I was less than pleased to hear that the houses built at the top of the hill would be for the capitalist side of life, the luxury range, as Councillor McCuish said, that’s where the money is for the business.

I would honestly like to say that, in my ideal world, wouldn’t it be lovely if the builder were to designate the land at the hills overlooking to Ganavan to senior citizens’ housing.

That would be a fantastic way for our pensioners to spend their twilight years – in houses with a lovely view.

The reality is that, instead, the building companies are looking for nothing other than financial gain.

Heaven forbid that the builders would construct the ‘high end’ houses in the middle of the estate where those and such as those would not have a view to enjoy.
