For enquiries, contact Coogie on coogiepots@gmail.com Kyokushinkai Karate Oban club fighters Darryl and Charlie McLaughlin took part in the Kyokushin Cup tournament on April 8 in Glasgow. The brothers did very well with Darryl taking part in one of the toughest fights of the day, narrowly losing out to his much bigger opponent by just half a point. Charlie came away with a third place trophy, a great achievement in his first event of this kind.

Lochgilphead fighter Jodie Robertson had an unfortunate start to her fight as she suffered an accidental scratch on her eyeball which meant she could not carry on.

All of the competitors enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to their next event. Darryl is now in training for the British Open Cadet event in September in Crawley.

Kickboxing Saturday April 8 saw eight junior members of the Senshi Do Kick Boxing club travel to the ARC Gym in Glasgow to fight in The Kyokushin Cup full contact, knockdown rules tournament.

Taking part in the Boys 6-7 years section were Adam Bratton and Logan Galbraith and, after a hard fought section, Adam took first place with Logan third.

The boys 8-9 category saw Cody McCulloch and Billy Bratton fight through the competition to face each other in the final. These friends are rivals on the mat and always bring out the best in each other. In what was arguably the fight of the day, Billy eventually came out on top after the judges called a draw within the normal time limit. This meant the boys had to go to extra time and a split judge’s decision. Unfortunately Sara MacIntyre, Jessica McCulloch, Robbie Bratton and Kaitlynne MacLeod didn’t make it through to the trophies, despite fighting well.

Sessions continue as normal with juniors at 6.30pm and seniors 7.30pm on Wednesdays. Juniors, 11am, and women only at 2pm on Sundays.
