William Mohieddeen Scottish Green Party, ward five

-

Argyll and Bute Council needs to change. The Argyll and Bute Green Party wants to see this region maximise its potential. Our council should be truly representative of our communities. When it is, better decisions for the public good are made.

I will work to achieve change in Argyll and Bute Council by:

Campaigning for communities to have a right to recall planning decisions.

Introduce live webcasting of council meetings, and publish committee voting records.

Enhance public participation in developing council budgets and policy.

Oppose top- down centralisation of schools, and guarantee positions for parents and students on education committees.

For Argyll and Bute to become a more equal, healthy and prosperous society, if elected I will work to:

Campaign to implement a carers living wage of £9.20 per hour and tackle zero-hours contracts.

Support and enable locally-led social- care partnerships and social enterprises. Make free childcare hours more flexible. Increase number of affordable, social housing and bring waiting list numbers down.

Exempt apprentices from paying council tax.
