Shinty memories core to heritage project
SHINTY is at the centre of a new project aimed at jogging the memories of former players and supporters.
The Sports Heritage Scotland project, launched at Hampden Park, Glasgow, on Friday March 31, will deliver a nationwide, community-based sports reminiscence project for vulnerable people. The purpose of the project is to help people living with dementia, and other forms of memory loss, loneliness or isolation, by collating and sharing old photographs of certain sports in an attempt to reignite happy memories. The project will also, more indirectly, help to preserve and manage the sport’s heritage and documented history. Reminiscence
In the next two years, Sports Heritage Scotland will set up a network of more than 100 volunteers to establish a minimum of 30 reminiscence groups for shinty, golf, rugby and cricket.
The Sports Heritage Scotland website, www.sportsheritagescotland.co.uk, also serves to highlight and promote the heritage of the member sports and will be available to view in English and Gaelic. If you have any images which you think could contribute to the memories project and could be included in the sports archive, relating to 1940-90 in the first instance, please contact Hugh Dan MacLennan on hughdan. maclennan@ sportsheritagescotland.co.uk.
