Wind band celebrates 21st birthday

LOCHABER Community Wind Band celebrates its 21st birthday next month.

The amateur musicians, based in Fort William, will be holding an educationa­l weekend on May 13 and 14 to mark the milestone.

The weekend will consist of full band, wind ensemble and sectional work culminatin­g in a concert on the Sunday in Duncansbur­gh Macintosh Parish Church, where it is expected a band of around 50 musicians from all over Scotland and will be playing. The band was founded in 1996 by John G Whyte, who has been the band’s conductor and prime motivator ever since.

The objective is to provide an outlet for the musical talents of amateur players throughout Lochaber and to contribute to the cultural diversity of the area by performing at community venues.

Members come from all over Lochaber and represent a wide variety of age groups, musical background­s and levels of experience.
