The rise of the festival scene in these parts is a remarkable success story. Islands such as Mull, Islay, Colonsay, South Uist and Tiree and mainland venues like Oban, Tarbert, Lochgilphead and Kintyre now play host to thousands of visitors each year. From humble beginnings and a huge amount of hard work by the organisers, these festivals have gained a glowing reputation that reaches far beyond the borders of Scotland. People from both far and near flock to these stunning locations to savour the best that Scottish music, food, drink and culture has to offer while at the same time experiencing the vibrant, informal and friendly atmosphere of a true West Highland gathering, be it in a bar, beach, public hall or playing field.

Our guide also has a practical purpose as it highlights the essential services festival-goers need to make their visit truly memorable. From tips on getting the most out of your festival experience to the things you need to remember for camping along with some great places to eat and drink in the areas in which you are visiting. This publication will prove invaluable so remember to pull it out and keep it somewhere handy to refer back to.

We hope this supplement will whet your appetite for an authentic slice of Highland and island culture and will help make your stay as much fun as we had in producing it.
