To­ploader and Hue And Cry to bring new ma­te­rial to Oban Live this June

Noughties house­hold name To­ploader and 80s le­gends Hue And Cry are con­firmed for the line-up at this year’s Oban Live, June 2 and 3. The tw o ac ts ha ve been added to an alr eady im­pres­sive bill a t Ar­gyll’s largest liv e mu­sic e vent, at Mossfi eld Sta­dium. The event at­tracted 7,800 vis­i­tors last year to Oban. Play­ing Fri­day night, June 2, To­ploader will per form tracks fr om their highly an­tic­i­pated f ourth al­bum See­ing Stars, re­leased May 12. Their new sin­gle, Roll With The P unches, w as pre­miered on Gr aham Nor­ton’s Ra­dio 2 sho w in Fe­bru­ary. Clas­sics such as their global hit Danc­ing in the Moon­light, from 2000, are also set to be high­lights on the night. Their visit to Oban will be the band’ s sec­ond trip to the West Coast since they head­lined Tiree Mu­sic Fes­ti­val in 2012, a gig tha t saw Sk­er­ryvore piper Martin Gille­spie join them on stage for a bag­pipe solo dur­ing Danc­ing in the Moon­light. Mean while, Pat and Greg Kane of Hue And Cry are all set f or their even­ing per for­mance a t Oban Live as an eight piece full band on S atur­day June 3. The broth­ers, who hails from Coat­bridge near Glasgo w, made a huge im­pac t in the late 80s with hit sin­gles , in­clud­ing Labour of L ove, and al­bums S educed and Aban­doned and Re­mote . Their Oban Liv e gig will show­case tracks from their new P ock­et­ful of Stones al­bum, due f or re­lease this year. To date, Hue and Cr y have sold in ex­cess of two mil­lion records world­wide. Martin Gille­spie fr om the Oban Live team and piper for Sk er­ryvore said: ‘We are thrilled tha t these two iconic bands have agreed to join us at Oban Live in June and we are ex­cited to hear their new ma­te­rial, as well as per for­mances of their clas­sic songs. ‘It will be gr eat to see the To­ploader lads again af ter join­ing them on stage on Tiree back in 2012 – per­haps some­thing we can do again in June!’ The Oban Live 2017 line-up also in­cludes Sk er­ryvore, Skip­in­nish, We Banjo 3, Trail West, Man­ran, Tide Lines , Ad­mi­ral Fal­low, Roddy Hart and the L one­some F ire, Ceol an Aire and the Ar­gyll Ceilidh Trail, and Oban High S chool P ipe Band .
