Toploader and Hue And Cry to bring new material to Oban Live this June

Noughties household name Toploader and 80s legends Hue And Cry are confirmed for the line-up at this year’s Oban Live, June 2 and 3. The tw o ac ts ha ve been added to an alr eady impressive bill a t Argyll’s largest liv e music e vent, at Mossfi eld Stadium. The event attracted 7,800 visitors last year to Oban. Playing Friday night, June 2, Toploader will per form tracks fr om their highly anticipate­d f ourth album Seeing Stars, released May 12. Their new single, Roll With The P unches, w as premiered on Gr aham Norton’s Radio 2 sho w in February. Classics such as their global hit Dancing in the Moonlight, from 2000, are also set to be highlights on the night. Their visit to Oban will be the band’ s second trip to the West Coast since they headlined Tiree Music Festival in 2012, a gig tha t saw Skerryvore piper Martin Gillespie join them on stage for a bagpipe solo during Dancing in the Moonlight. Mean while, Pat and Greg Kane of Hue And Cry are all set f or their evening per formance a t Oban Live as an eight piece full band on S aturday June 3. The brothers, who hails from Coatbridge near Glasgo w, made a huge impac t in the late 80s with hit singles , including Labour of L ove, and albums S educed and Abandoned and Remote . Their Oban Liv e gig will showcase tracks from their new P ocketful of Stones album, due f or release this year. To date, Hue and Cr y have sold in excess of two million records worldwide. Martin Gillespie fr om the Oban Live team and piper for Sk erryvore said: ‘We are thrilled tha t these two iconic bands have agreed to join us at Oban Live in June and we are excited to hear their new material, as well as per formances of their classic songs. ‘It will be gr eat to see the Toploader lads again af ter joining them on stage on Tiree back in 2012 – perhaps something we can do again in June!’ The Oban Live 2017 line-up also includes Sk erryvore, Skipinnish, We Banjo 3, Trail West, Manran, Tide Lines , Admiral Fallow, Roddy Hart and the L onesome F ire, Ceol an Aire and the Argyll Ceilidh Trail, and Oban High S chool P ipe Band .
