Oban nurse is up for award
A NURSE from Oban is up for a top award in a public vote for helping a patient with mental illness turn her life around.
Nadine MacArthur, daughter of Deborah and Colin MacDonald, now works as a community mental health nurse at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin. She has been shortlisted for the Patients’ Choice Award at the RCNI Nurse Awards, run by the Royal College of Nursing Institute.
Oban born and bred, Nadine was surprised and touched to learn of her nomination by patient Jo Mullen, who suffers from borderline personality disorder (BPD).
Nadine helped Jo to create a booklet of her experiences living with BPD. Jo explained: ‘Nadine is central to me leading a purposeful life and experiencing the joy of achievement, despite the difficulties I face daily. The way we work together is a challenge to the traditional relationship between patient and professional.’
Voting is open until April 28 at www.rcni.com.
