Com­mu­nity com­pany builds for the fu­ture

COM­MU­NITY mem­bers in Acharachle have been busy lately, spruc­ing up the vil­lage build­ings and giv­ing new busi­nesses a help­ing hand.

Achar­a­cle Com­mu­nity Com­pany is a small non-profit-mak­ing or­gan­i­sa­tion, whose aims in­clud­ing man­ag­ing as­sets for the com­mu­nity.

The com­pany held a pro­duce and craft mar­ket at Shiel­bridge Hall last Thurs­day April 20.

On sale were freshly-baked bread and cakes. Re­fresh­ments were avail­able with money go­ing to­wards fundrais­ing for lo­cal groups. And lo­cal crafts were on of­fer pro­vid­ing the op­por­tu­nity to find unique gifts.

The com­pany is hop­ing this will be the first of many mar­kets which it wishes to hold through­out the summer months in a bid to sup­port the lo­cal com­muni- ty and give a warm wel­come to vis­i­tors.

People power also pre­vailed with the com­pany’s ef­forts to give the vil­lage’s old post of­fice a makeover.

On April 2, fam­i­lies and friends painted the build­ings as a new busi­ness was set to open on Easter week­end. A spokesper­son for the com­mu­nity com­pany said: ‘Thanks to our won­der­ful band of helpers at the post of­fice build­ings yes­ter­day we man­aged to get the whole of the gable end of the build­ing painted and lots of rhodies cut back, the fence ti­died and all sorts of rub­bish taken away. Also big thanks to Heather for great re­fresh­ments to keep the work­ers go­ing and to the sun for shin­ing. All great to get Na’vi Or­gan­ics off to a good start when it opens.’

The former Achar­a­cle post of­fice gets a make- over.
