Union members vote to end dispute
MEMBERS of the trades union Unite at the Coulport and Faslane naval bases have overwhelmingly voted to end a dispute over workers’ rights.
The decision was taken last Tuesday April 18 at a mass meeting of members, all of them civilian staff who support naval operations at the home of the UK’s nuclear submarine fleet.
The members voted to accept a new accord de- signed to repair industrial relations at the bases. It was negotiated last week between Unite general secretary Len McCluskey, Unite officers and representatives, and senior officers of employer Bab- cock Marine. Civilian staff at Coulport and Faslane started industrial action on March 24, after allegations that Babcock Marine was undermining workers’ rights as part of a campaign to outsource work.
