Renowned choir brings its music tour to Argyll
THE Glasgow Phoenix Choir is a busy mixed-voice choir of 120-plus singers performing up to 40 concerts per year from major concert halls to cathedrals and remote island venues.
The choir continues the legacy of its illustrious predecessor the Glasgow Orpheus Choir 1901-1951 and this year the Phoenix celebrates 116 years of choral Excellence. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Co- op Funeralcare, the GPC is now able to participate in an increas- ing number of concerts in aid of many worthwhile causes.
Under its conductor, Marilyn J Smith MBE, and accompanist and depute conductor, Cameron Murdoch, the choir performs a wide range of music from choral standards to new music and often featuring delightful solo performances by choir members.
Its concerts in Argyllshire this month support a number of charities and the intention is to return to a number of the venues in the future to add to its praised series of postcard CD recordings which raise much needed funds for these buildings or organisations. Venues already supported include the Italian Chapel in Orkney, St Andrew’s Cathedral in Glasgow to support St Andrew’s Hospice Airdrie and Iona Abbey, which is visited on this tour. Join the choir at a series of memorable concerts and performances – all welcome.
The organisers would like to thank Co-op Funeralcare who sponsor the choir and make it all possible.
