NEVIS HILLWALKIN­G CLUB

Saturday May 6

Bidean nam Bian/Peak of the Mountains (Munro 1,150m). Take the built path up Coire nan Lochan as far as a small crag at NN155553. Cross the burn and go W, then NW up a gentle slope of grass and rock to the summit of Aonach Dubh, 892m. Descend bare rock S to the col and continue up the rocky N ridge of Stob Coire nan Lochan to its summit, 1,115m. From here, take the south-west ridge to the col and climb to the summit of Bidean nam Bian, 1,150m. Descend SE to the col at the head of Coire Gabhail, and descend NE to the valley floor. Exit following the path to the bridge over the River Coe just below the Meeting of Three Waters. Continue on the path back to the start. This walk covers a distance of 11km and a height of 1,200m but there are a few alternativ­e start and descent options depending on weather and snow conditions.

Saturday May 6

North Dallens to Ardtur peninsula. This is a beautiful circular walk following the old railway line alongside Loch Linnhe. Great views of the Isle of Shuna and Castle Stalker. Passing the Knap and crossing the Jubilee Bridge. Walking on to Ardtur for the views before returning to the cars and on to Castle Stalker view café for lunch/refreshmen­ts. An easy-leisurely grade walk covering 9.7km. Meet at 9.30am at Glencoe Village car park. Ballachuli­sh TIC at 9.35am, Longsdale car park in Oban at 9.20am, Fort William Woollen Mill at 9.10am or Spean Bridge Woollen Mill at 8.55am. Contact Denise Jones on 0782377971­3 or 01397 772768.

Sunday May 7

Meall Corranaich and Meall a’Choire Leith, Loch Tay. Two easy Munros, rough or boggy in places at first, with the option of continuing a pleasant ridge walk to Bridge of Balgie in Glen Lyon. Teashop at the post office. A medium-plus grade walk covering a distance of 10km or 12km (choice of descent routes) and a height of 777m. Meet at Longsdale car park, Oban at 8.20am or Glencoe village car park at 8.30am. Transport required. The walk leader is Andrew Gilbert on 07808 924722.

Thursday May 11

Glencruitt­en Woods and Loch Nell, Oban. A circular walk from Oban through Glencruitt­en Woods and going as far as the banks of lovely Loch Nell. This leisurely grade walk covers a distance of 11km and a height of 250m. Meet at Longsdale car park, Oban, at 10am or North Ballachuli­sh School at 9.10am.
