Allan is president at bowling club
THE Fort William Railway Bowling Club has started the season off with a new president.
Allan MacDonald, who has been involved with the club for the past five years, took on the role last weekend.
He told the Lochaber Times: ‘I was vice-president for the past two years. My main duties will be welcoming people at the start of each weekend competition, announcing which competitions are being played and doing the presentations afterwards.’
During the week Allan has his own taxi company, which he balances with his responsibilities at the club. He said: ‘I have to take weekends off, which is obviously the busiest time for taxis, but I need to be at the club.’
Allan said he hopes to be president for the next two to three years, before passing it on to someone else.
On Saturday the club held its first competition of the season.
The Stewart Cup balloted pairs competition was held in brilliant sunshine with Kevin Douglas, left, and Wilson Thain receiving the winning trophy from the president Allan MacDonald, centre. Also in the picture are Alan Lawrie, second right, and Colin MacDonald.
Competitions will be held every weekend until October.
