NE­VIS HILLWALKING CLUB

Meet­ing point for walks is the car park at the Ben Ne­vis Woollen Mill for de­par­ture at 8am.

Sun­day May 14

Aonach Ea­gach/ the Notched Ridge, Meall Dearg/Red Hill (Munro 953m) and Sgorr nam Fian­naidh/Peak of the Fian War­riors (967m Munro)

Park in the layby on the A82. Climb steeply on a good path up the SE ridge of Am Bo­dach (943m).

From the sum­mit de­scend W to a sud­den and ex­posed drop of about 20m and scram­ble down this on good holds.

A path con­tin­ues along the nar­row crest and a rocky slope leads to Meall Dearg (953m).

Con­tinue west­ward keep­ing mainly to the crest. Most of this sec­tion in­volves scram­bling on sound rock, not tech­ni­cally dif­fi­cult, but ex­posed in places.

The scram­bling ends at the col E of Stob Coire Leith (940m). As­cend to its sum­mit and con­tinue to Sgorr nam Fian­naidh (967m).

To de­scend, head west­wards over the rel­a­tively flat sum­mit to NN134582. De­scend the rocky slopes of the NW ridge and pick up a path, which con­tin­ues down to meet the well-worn path up the Pap of Glen­coe. Turn left and fol­low this down to the old road.

Trans­port re­quired at the end of the walk on the old Glen­coe Road.

This walk cov­ers a dis­tance of 9km and a height of 1140m.

The club AGM will be held at the Hub café on Fas­sifern Road, Fort Wil­liam from 7-9pm.

Fri­day May 12

Ne­vis Range – Wades Road Cir­cuit.

For­est tracks and a sec­tion of Gen­eral Wades Road make up this in­ter­est­ing cir­cu­lar walk. We should get good views of the North Face of Ben Ne­vis, weather per­mit­ting. Lunch/re­fresh­ments at the Pine­marten af­ter the walk.

An easy leisurely grade walk cov­er­ing 8.1km. Meet at 9.40am at Ben Ne­vis High­land Cen­tre.

Satur­day May 13

The Sad­dle, Sgurr na Sgine and Faochag, Glen Shiel.

A clas­sic mountain walk in splen­did scenery, with a grade 1, three-star scram­ble. Rated one of the best ex­pe­di­tions in Kin­tail.

There is the op­tion to avoid scram­bling and also to have an evening meal be­fore or dur­ing the jour­ney home.

A stre­nous grade walk cov­er­ing a dis­tance of 13km and a height of 1490m.

Meet at Fort Wil­liam woollen mill at 8.30am.

Thurs­day May 18

Carn Dearg (South East), Glen Roy.

One of three Cor­betts in the vicin­ity of Glen Roy with the same name, this one forms part of a pleas­ant cir­cuit with great views and a var­ied in­ter­est­ing ter­rain.

This mod­er­ate plus grade walk cov­ers a dis­tance of 14km and a height of 670m.

Meet at Fort Wil­liam woollen mill at 9.15am.
