So­lic­i­tor takes on daunt­ing mil­i­tary chal­lenge

A SO­LIC­I­TOR in Oban will run 10 miles with a 16-kilo­gram back­pack on to raise money for Oban High School af­ter it helped his son.

Kevin McGin­ness will travel to Colch­ester on May 21 in or­der to take part in the run, which is or­gan­ised by the army.

The 50-year- old said: ‘My son, David, went to Oban High School and it was a dif­fi­cult cir- cum­stance. He had to change school in his fi­nal year - he had to change from Ding­wall to Oban half-way through.

‘Oban High School was ab­so­lutely amaz­ing in teach­ing my son and pro­vid­ing him with an ex­cel­lent ed­u­ca­tion. They were very wel­com­ing.

‘I am re­ally grate­ful for what Oban High School did.’

The E Thorn­ton and Co so­lic­i­tor has been train­ing for this event since the end of Jan­uary.

He wants to raise the money so the school can pur­chase equip­ment and ma­te­ri­als to ben­e­fit the pupils.

‘The school did so much for my boy,’ he added. ‘So I wanted to do some­thing by a way of thanks.

‘They were so sup­port­ive. It was a dif­fi­cult sit­u­a­tion. They had to ac­com­mo­date what he was do­ing, with what they could of­fer.’
