Fort William top of league

-

FORT William Cricket Club have become joint leaders of the North of Scotland senior league.

A solid batting performance against Northern Counties at the weekend saw Fort go to 206-7 from their 45 overs, with batting honours shared between Ross Lavin (43), Charlie Luxton (31), Ash Anjum (34), Col Jennings (30) and Daniel Davidson (34 not out).

In reply, NCCC were dismissed for 142, leaving Fort winners by 62 runs. NCCC started well, with the openers putting on 31 but the turning point was probably when Edgware was out for 34. Both Ash Anjum and Col Lavin took three wickets, and captain DJ Duncan two.

The middle order collapsed and, despite some resistance from Evans and Lean, there was no stopping Fort gaining another 20 points.

On Sunday a weakened team took on Nairn in a senior cup fixture. There was no stopping Alex Green who scored 151 before taking three for 18 in a comfortable victory. Only DJ Duncan, with an excellent 50, provided resistance with Fort all out for 134, losing by 113 runs.

Fort’s captain said: ‘We learned a lot this week and are delighted to be at the top of the league. The cup defeat was a disappointment but it’s always hard to win with only nine players. Next week we plan to pick up another 20 points.’
