Strontian school plan forges ahead

-

ANOTHER important milestone has been reached by a community aiming to build its own school.

Strontian Community School Building (SCSB) Limited now owns the piece of land adjacent to Ardnamurchan High School.

SCSB aims to raise £600,000 to complete the first community-owned school project in Scotland, and last December raised £100,000 towards the project ahead of the February 28 deadline.

At an SCSB board meeting on May 2, it was agreed to issue a ‘letter of intent’ to S& K Macdonald Homes in order that it can proceed with planning permission and other preparatory work.

Reverend Donald McCorkindale, chairperson of SCSB, told

Lochaber Times: ‘We anticipate that very soon we will be in a position to award the contract formally.

‘The timeline is now indicating that within a year Strontian Primary School will be in the new premises.’
