Stron­tian school plan forges ahead

ANOTHER im­por­tant mile­stone has been reached by a com­mu­nity aim­ing to build its own school.

Stron­tian Com­mu­nity School Build­ing (SCSB) Lim­ited now owns the piece of land ad­ja­cent to Ard­na­mur­chan High School.

SCSB aims to raise £600,000 to com­plete the first com­mu­nity-owned school project in Scot­land, and last De­cem­ber raised £100,000 to­wards the project ahead of the Fe­bru­ary 28 dead­line.

At an SCSB board meet­ing on May 2, it was agreed to is­sue a ‘let­ter of in­tent’ to S& K Mac­don­ald Homes in or­der that it can pro­ceed with plan­ning per­mis­sion and other prepara­tory work.

Rev­erend Don­ald McCorkin­dale, chair­per­son of SCSB, told

Lochaber Times: ‘We an­tic­i­pate that very soon we will be in a po­si­tion to award the con­tract for­mally.

‘The time­line is now in­di­cat­ing that within a year Stron­tian Pri­mary School will be in the new premises.’
