NEVIS HILLWALKING CLUB

Saturday May 20
Glen Lyon horseshoe (Map 51, NN6 66483). Four possible Munros – Carn Gorm (Blue Hill) 1,028m, Meall Garbh (Rough Hill) 968m, Carn Mairg (several possible meanings, including Hill of Sorrow, Pity, Folly, Boundary or Pudding) 1,041m, and Creag Mhor (simply Big Rock), 981m – Invervar is the starting point.
Take the track north, then NW. The summit of Carn Gorm is about 3km west up a broad ridge. Meall Garbh is reached by going north to (or by) An Sgorr, over a col and following a line of fence posts.
Continue roughly east along the ridge, still following the fence posts, reaching the summit of Carn Mairg after a short, narrow and bouldery section. Descend carefully SE down a steep slope over a small crag, after which it is easy to the next col. From there climb south to the level summit ridge of Creag Mhor. To return, go west onto the easy-angled ridge to join the track to the start. (17.1 km, 1470m ascent).

Carn Dearg (south east) led by Glen Roy and Ann Jones.
One of three Corbetts in the vicinity of Glen Roy with the same name, this one forms part of a pleasant circuit with great views and a varied, interesting terrain.
This walk is a moderate walk of 14km, with a 670m climb. Meet at Fort William WM NN112742 at 9.15am with the start of the walk at 10am.

Sunday May 21
South Kerrera and Gylen Castle with Marion Moir.
A walk on easy ground, visiting remote beaches and a historic castle. Seaward views to Mull and Morvern. Other sites of archaeological interest include a fort near Upper Gylen. Ferry £4.50 return, no concessions. Every 30 minutes between 10.30am and 12.30pm, and between 2pm and 5pm.
This walk covers 10km, climbing 250m. Meet at N Ballachulish School NN053603 at 9.30am, or Gallanach ferry slip for 10.30am sailing to Kerrera.

Sgurr Choinnich Beag and Sgurr Choinnich Mor at Glen Nevis. This is s strenuous walk over 17km, climbing to 1,100m. Meet at Fort William WM NN112742 at 9.15am with the walk starting at 9.30am.
