Swim­mers urged to go the ex­tra mile for cash

SWIM­MERS are be­ing asked to take an ex­tra plunge to help raise cash for Mal­laig pool’s re­fur­bish­ment fund.

Swim Around the Is­lands is an an­nual event run by Mal­laig Pool and Leisure, where in­di­vid­u­als are asked to swim 4,000 lengths of the pool, the equiv­a­lent dis­tance – 49.72 – if you were to swim around the Small Isles of Eigg, Muck, Rum and Canna.

Par­tic­i­pants get two months to com­plete the chal­lenge from April 24 to June 23. En­try costs £ 5 and all the money raised goes to­wards the pool’s re­fur­bish­ment fund.

A spokesper­son from pool said: ‘So far we’ve raised more than £ 309,000. That doesn’t in­clude money raised on our be­half by peo­ple tak­ing part in the Road to the Isles Half Marathon on Satur­day May 12.’

Pro­ceeds from the wife car­ry­ing com­pe­ti­tion at the Road to the Isles Agri­cul­tural Show on Satur­day June 10 will also go to the pool fund.
