Swimmers urged to go the extra mile for cash

-

SWIMMERS are being asked to take an extra plunge to help raise cash for Mallaig pool’s refurbishment fund.

Swim Around the Islands is an annual event run by Mallaig Pool and Leisure, where individuals are asked to swim 4,000 lengths of the pool, the equivalent distance – 49.72 – if you were to swim around the Small Isles of Eigg, Muck, Rum and Canna.

Participants get two months to complete the challenge from April 24 to June 23. Entry costs £ 5 and all the money raised goes towards the pool’s refurbishment fund.

A spokesperson from pool said: ‘So far we’ve raised more than £ 309,000. That doesn’t include money raised on our behalf by people taking part in the Road to the Isles Half Marathon on Saturday May 12.’

Proceeds from the wife carrying competition at the Road to the Isles Agricultural Show on Saturday June 10 will also go to the pool fund.
