PUPILS at Kinlochleven High School were celebrating after carrying home nine awards from the Rock Challange 2017 following their showcase about mental wellbeing.

Thirty-two pupils travelled to Eden Court, Inverness, last Thursday to perform in front of an audience of 800 people. The school won awards for, Excellence for Concept, Cultural and Educational Achievement Award, Award for Positive Inclusion, Excellence for Stage Crew, Excellence for Performance Skill, Award for Achievement in Substance Awareness, Excellence for Set Design and Function, Award for Excellence for Entertainment, and Award for Excellence for Visual Enhancement.

With the support of See Me, a Scottish charity which tackles mental health stigma and discrimination, pupils created a story using five teenagers from different backgrounds and interests, showing how they are affected by different emotions through their life experiences.

As well as planning the performance and choreography of the dance, the pupils also worked on all the backstage details, with a professional set of theatre flats were designed and built by Jodie Daynes (S3).

Head Teacher Rebecca Machin said: ' The day spent at Eden Court was incredible. They performed from their heart in front of a crowd of 800 people and for some of the 32 performers it was their first time on stage. They were incredibly brave and thoroughly deserved the awards which they received.' KINLOCHLEVEN Community Trust is encouraging amateur photographers to enter its calendar competition.
