PUPILS at Kin­lochleven High School were cel­e­brat­ing af­ter car­ry­ing home nine awards from the Rock Chal­lange 2017 fol­low­ing their show­case about men­tal well­be­ing.

Thirty-two pupils trav­elled to Eden Court, In­ver­ness, last Thurs­day to per­form in front of an au­di­ence of 800 peo­ple. The school won awards for, Ex­cel­lence for Con­cept, Cul­tural and Ed­u­ca­tional Achieve­ment Award, Award for Pos­i­tive In­clu­sion, Ex­cel­lence for Stage Crew, Ex­cel­lence for Per­for­mance Skill, Award for Achieve­ment in Sub­stance Aware­ness, Ex­cel­lence for Set De­sign and Func­tion, Award for Ex­cel­lence for En­ter­tain­ment, and Award for Ex­cel­lence for Vis­ual En­hance­ment.

With the sup­port of See Me, a Scot­tish char­ity which tack­les men­tal health stigma and dis­crim­i­na­tion, pupils cre­ated a story us­ing five teenagers from dif­fer­ent back­grounds and in­ter­ests, show­ing how they are af­fected by dif­fer­ent emo­tions through their life ex­pe­ri­ences.

As well as plan­ning the per­for­mance and chore­og­ra­phy of the dance, the pupils also worked on all the back­stage de­tails, with a pro­fes­sional set of theatre flats were de­signed and built by Jodie Daynes (S3).

Head Teacher Re­becca Machin said: ' The day spent at Eden Court was in­cred­i­ble. They per­formed from their heart in front of a crowd of 800 peo­ple and for some of the 32 per­form­ers it was their first time on stage. They were in­cred­i­bly brave and thor­oughly de­served the awards which they re­ceived.' KIN­LOCHLEVEN Com­mu­nity Trust is en­cour­ag­ing am­a­teur pho­tog­ra­phers to en­ter its calendar com­pe­ti­tion.

Ev­ery year, hun­dreds of Kin­lochleven cal­en­dars are sent to friends and fam­ily around the world, let­ting them en­joy the beauty of South Lochaber in print.

Am­a­teur pho­tog­ra­phers in two cat­e­gories, gen­eral en­try and un­der 18s, can send pho­tographs to be in with a chance of hav­ing it fea­tured on the calendar and win­ning a £ 50 gift voucher. Ten run­ners up will re­ceive a £25 gift voucher. All win­ners will get copy of the 2018 calendar and dis­count vouch­ers to­wards ad­di­tional pur­chases of the calendar. All prof­its from calendar sales will be used by the com­mu­nity trust to help fund vil­lage projects.
