Saints 17s defeat Saints 16s in League Cup final

-

LAST Sunday at Mossfield Stadium two Oban Saints youth team games took place.

The first saw Saints Under 15s reach the Dunbartonshire Development Football League Cup final with a comprehensive 7-3 win over Dumbarton United Blacks thanks to goals from Lennon Campbell (3), Aaron McKay (3) and Jordan Norman.

The final, against either Dumbarton United Yellows or Drumchapel, will be played at Millburn Park, Vale of Leven, on Saturday May 27.

The second match involved two Oban Saints teams with the older Under 17s coming out on top by the odd goal in three against the Under 16s.

Before the game, the teams and officials were piped onto the park by Stuart Campbell. The Under 17s took the lead in the first half through a Lewis Buchanan free kick but Cameron Kerr equalised with five minutes of the game remaining.

However, a mix-up in the Under 16s defence in time added on by the referee allowed Kenny MacDonald a tap-in from close range much to the delight of his teammates to make the final score 2-1. Oban Saints Youths chairman Robbie Johnstone thanked the match officials Tony McCann, John Scott, Tim Woodcock and James Gallagher before calling on former youth chairmen Iain Alexander and Alan MacLeodto hand over the trophies, firstly to the Under 16s who received the DFDL Under 16 league championship trophy they won a few weeks ago and then to the Under 17s for their narrow win in the final.
