Don­ald Black pre­pares to launch al­bum

I WAS sad­dened to read a Face­book post from the Glas­gow Is­lay As­so­ci­a­tion last week in which they ex­pressed con­cern about the as­so­ci­a­tion’s abil­ity to con­tinue be­cause of a lack of com­mit­tee mem­bers to as­sist in its gen­eral run­ning.

I have writ­ten in this column over the past cou­ple of years of the great suc­cess of the Glas­gow Is­lay As­so­ci­a­tion af­ter sev­eral new, young com­mit­tee mem­bers be­came heav­ily in­volved in its run­ning, but life moves on and, un­for­tu­nately, some are no longer able to com­mit.

An ex­cerpt from the Face­book post reads: ‘Un­less we gain some new com­mit­tee mem­bers willing to of­fer their ser­vices and at­tend meet­ings (7-9pm on the first Tuesday of each month), the Glas­gow Is­lay As­so­ci­a­tion will have to be wound up af­ter 155 years.’

The as­so­ci­a­tion’s an­nual gen­eral meet­ing is to be held on Thurs­day June 1 at 7pm and this now looks to be an in­cred­i­bly im­por­tant AGM for the as­so­ci­a­tion. Let us hope there is a big at­ten­dance at this meet­ing so that sup­port for the won­der­ful is­land as­so­ci­a­tion con­tin­ues into the fu­ture.
