Donald Black prepares to launch album
I WAS saddened to read a Facebook post from the Glasgow Islay Association last week in which they expressed concern about the association’s ability to continue because of a lack of committee members to assist in its general running.
I have written in this column over the past couple of years of the great success of the Glasgow Islay Association after several new, young committee members became heavily involved in its running, but life moves on and, unfortunately, some are no longer able to commit.
An excerpt from the Facebook post reads: ‘Unless we gain some new committee members willing to offer their services and attend meetings (7-9pm on the first Tuesday of each month), the Glasgow Islay Association will have to be wound up after 155 years.’
The association’s annual general meeting is to be held on Thursday June 1 at 7pm and this now looks to be an incredibly important AGM for the association. Let us hope there is a big attendance at this meeting so that support for the wonderful island association continues into the future.
If anyone is unable to attend the AGM but is willing to assist the association, they are asked to contact either Jannette MacArthur ( jmacarthur47@gmail.com) or Katherine McNaughton (katislay26@hotmail.co.uk).
