Highland hostel’s big birthday

A HIGHLAND youth hostel is celebrating a landmark anniversary.

Ratagan Youth Hostel near Skye has been part of SYHA Hostelling Scotland for 85 years and to mark the occasion it is appealing for special memories and cherished moments from visitors who have stayed there.

Gairloch Sands Youth Hostel in Ross-shire has also reached the 85-year milestone.

SYHA has said it wants to hear from people, around the UK and further afield, who have spent time at two of its longest-running youth hostels and have memories, amazing experiences or interesting photographs they would be willing to share with keen hostellers past and present.

Opened on May 14, 1932, Ratagan is a very popular choice with hostellers and has one of the best youth hostel locations in Scotland.

Set on the shore of Loch Duich, the hostel enjoys unrivalled views of the magnificent Five Sisters mountain range.
